We figured we'd better run this one before the economy was completely recovered, though it's actually less inspired by the recession than by our fear of giving up our day jobs.
Jamie and I once knew an art director who made a fortune freelancing because he was constantly hustling. We'd go out to lunch and he'd tell the restaurant manager his menus were crap, then slip him a business card. Utterly shameless. He was human spam.
As much as I'd love to make my own hours and pocket 100% of my billing rate, I am sooo not that guy. I couldn't be, even if I tried. And the thought of Jamie as a slick self-promoter is too absurd to entertain.
